Pen and Paper vs. Digital

Yesterday I talked a bit about distraction and how I’ve tried to deal with it in the past. There’s another method that I’ve heard really helps that I didn’t mention yesterday, and that I wanted to get some thoughts on. Many people suggest that using good old-fashioned pen and paper helps them to work through ideas and problems much easier than using a digital counterpart. Let’s explore that a little more.

Overcoming Distraction

Distraction is something we all deal with from time to time. I’m dealing with it now trying to write this post. The constant chirp of my phone, a new email notification from Sparrow (and on my phone), and the myriad of other things that happen in any given period of time. Distraction is one of the biggest things that gets in the way of my writing. Many times I look at a blank page, get discouraged, and then give into the distractions around me.

New iOS Twitter App: UI #Fail?

Twitter’s latest redesign has caused quite a stir. The consensus on the web interface seems to be relatively positive, but the iOS app hasn’t received quite same reaction. Those that have used the app for a while know that it began as Tweetie, and was the de facto Twitter app for a long time. This redesign, however, has taken a very different direction.

Q&A With The TentBlogger Himself

I’m sure many of you are familiar with John Saddington, aka the TentBlogger. He’s been a great inspiration to me in revamping this blog and publishing new content regularly. His site offers a ton of great advice for every blogger from the novice to the advanced. I had a few questions that I’d always wanted to ask him, so what better way to publish the answers than right here on my blog! Here we go:

Evernote for Bloggers

There are many apps that I like and use occasionally, but there are only a few that I absolutely love and couldn’t live without. Evernote is one of those apps. It’s useful for so many things, which I won’t be able to fit into this post, though I do hope to write about it again soon. In this post, I want to focus on how I use it for blogging, and what impact it’s had on my workflow.

If you haven’t seen it yet, YouVersion has just released a beta version of their upcoming new website for the public to test out. You can check it out here. All you need to do is sign in with your current YouVersion username and password to get in and look around. From what I’ve looked at so far, it’s awesome!

iTether

One of the biggest tech stories from yesterday and early today was of an app that appeared in the App Store called iTether. It claimed to allow contract free tethering over USB to your Mac or PC for the comparatively low one time price of $14.99. I have no idea how the app made it through Apple’s approval process, but it did, and soon rocketed to the top of the charts. Sadly, the app was pulled from the store this morning, as we all knew would happen eventually. I wasn’t able to get my hands on it, but have heard that it really does work, and work pretty well.

Writer’s Block

Sometimes writing is hard for me, even though I really enjoy it. I guess it’s not the writing that’s hard, it’s finding something to write about. So, instead of just wasting time trying to come up with something, I thought I’d write a post about not knowing what to write, and then ask you, the readers, what you’d like to read about here.

So, what kinds of posts would you like to see here?

A New Blogging Effort

I’ve been really enjoying blogging over at ChurchMag. I love being able to share my thoughts on church tech with a community as large and interactive as ChurchMag’s is. While I’m definitely going to continue to write over there, I want to try and refocus my efforts and focus on my blog here, and begin to share some thoughts I have and have had for a while on technology and the church. I hope you’ll join me for the ride! Stay tuned!
